Underpinning this strand of work are skills in industrial statistics, econometrics, economic development and regeneration.

Esys has prepared local, sub-regional and regional economic development strategies. These are based on detailed analysis of the economy and associated productivity drivers.

Statistical analysis and hypothesis testing is a key element of our work and has informed the development of several innovative methodologies. This includes shift-share analysis, employment and GVA modelling plus use of inferential statistical tools examining cause and effect. 

Our Economic Futures work draws together detailed economic analysis and sectoral projections at a variety of spatial scales. It allows client-definition of spatial areas and industry sectors. It also allows ‘what-if’ scenario modelling.

Esys has undertaken evaluations of a wide range of regeneration initiatives including schemes funded via SRB, City Challenge, UDCs, NDCs and more recently LSPs. The company has undertaken detailed analysis of the Index of Multiple Deprivation for various clients including the Coalfields Regeneration Trust and led a major study of rural disadvantage in Cumbria. <link>

This includes the preparation of Town and Parish Plans and Village Design Statements. We have significant experience of working with local communities.

Esys has appraised a significant number of major projects for regional government agencies, including evaluation of a range of business support and economic development programmes.
